Where were we last week?
Oh yes I was talking about the recently concluded Amazon Fashion Week by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). What a week that was. All of us been for so many fashion shows and so called fashion weeks by numerous brands but nobody does fashion shows and a fashion week better than FDCI. The style and panache they do it all with is unmatched. Everything is usually near perfect be it the choice of venue, the decor, the line up of designers, sponsors, crowd, parties, after parties, themes, music and all that you can think of. Over the years they just get better and better at it. Once one gets used to the fashion week by them it is very hard to attend other fashion events as they just don’t measure up. One of the most interesting shows of DAY 3 was the one by Namrata Joshipura. Her collection saw high street fashion inspired by New York City. Structured dresses, gowns and jumpsuits ruled the ramp. Alia Bhatt rocked the ramp as her showstopper in a shimmery jumpsuit. The best as they say was saved for the last. The last day (Day 4) of the fashion week saw a very interesting menswear show with six designers like Dhrv Vah, Pawan Sachdeva, Kommal and Ratul Sood etc showcasing very interesting menswear lines. Mostly in monochrome the collections by all of them were impressive. Menswear has truly come of age. Besides that the sheer energy of the whole show was fun, young and vibrant. With showstoppers like Dino Morea, Angad Bedi, Anushka Manchanda, Sangram Singh etc there wasn’t a heart that didn’t skip a beat. And of course the Grand Finale by Tarun Tahiliani and Amit Aggarwal was breathtaking. The clothes were exquisite. The sari gowns, dhoti pants and kurtas by Tarun were traditional with a modern presentation. While Amit’s collection saw a beautiful range of evening gowns in Chanderi, Banarsi etc. With over 80 models and a beautiful and grand backdrop it was the perfect ending to a perfect fashion week yet again. We can hardly wait.
